You really can't turn on your radio these days without being hit with Fighting With Wire. Just added to the XFM playlist and playing 'Europe's Biggest Free Festival' - this weekend; Radio 1's 'One Big Weekend' - needless to say, we're all very pleased at STA. I've bought one of those big fingers you take to wrestling rumbles. FWW... WWF... hmmm (merchandising brain ticks...) especially for this afternoon's gig.
Anyway - some information. If you're lucky enough to be going along and can ram yourself into the Introducing Tent then please tell everyone about it on the BBC Forum - here are some recent user comments:

As previously mentioned, last week Smalltown America invaded Radio 1's plush Maida Vale studios in West London for a double-header live session from Alan MX and Fighting With Wire. Both sets were recorded for Huw Stephens' In New Music We Trust show, and will be aired sometime next month.
Oh, but there's more! We're also going to be their DIY Label of the Week!
What does that mean? Well, not only will listeners be gifted with some brilliant live session tracks, you'll also get to hear Ferris and Daniel talking about STA's past, present and future whilst spinning some tracks from some of our forthcoming releases!
Of course, Aaron Connolly was on hand to document the afternoon for his forthcoming documentary about the label. Check out some stills from it, all of Alan MX hard at work:

STA would like to extend a massive "thank you" to Huw and Louse @ Radio 1 for having us down for the afternoon, and another "thank you" to everyone who came down to watch the session! While we're not sure of the exact airdate(s) just yet, we'll keep you all posted and let you know the date(s) closer to the time.

As some of you may remember, the inaugural Public Service Broadcast Club back in January was something of a success. So much so, we've decided to do it all again!
Public Service Broadcast Club 2 takes place this weekend, on Saturday April 19th, again in co-operation with the fine people at On Fire, The Notting Hill Arts Club and Rough Trade's RoTa series. This time, the following wonderful musical combos will be gracing the stage:
4 OR 5 MAGICIANS (stagetime: 7:00pm)Brighton's kings of hardworking slack rock. Shades of Pavement, GBV and Dinosaur Jr, except if they were gobby, opinionated  and from south London. Fuzz drenched anthems-in-waiting, and recently seen on tour with Los Campesinos! of all people. New 7" 'Change The Record' out April 21st on This Is Fake DIY Records!
LOAD.CLICK.SHOOT! (stagetime: 6:15pm)Angular disco colours and kaleidoscopic rhythms, coming all the way from the wilds of Devon. Bundles of fun, but what less could you expect from a band with a song called "Le Disco Avec Moi"? Forthcoming 7" on Oxford's finest DIY label, Vacouous Pop.
TESSELATORS (stagetime: 5:30pm)Based in London and with a shared love of Built To Spill, Captain Beefheart, Battles, The Band and Fugazi, all of which come across in their kickin' live sound. Lofty plans for the future involve release three EPs in a year, one detailing adventure, another concerning the sea, and one about the city. All four members of Tesselators used to be in The Hundred Handed, who longterm STA fans may remember from a couple of early Public Service Broadcasts.
JAM ON BREAD (stagetime: 4:45pm)Jam On Bread is the leading proponent of the aquatic uke-pop scene of Manchester. Indie pop that brings to mind the joy of Animal Collective and fragility of The Radio Dept., Sambassadeur and a whole load of Swedish bands that only total indie pop nerds will have heard of. Indie pop nerds like Daniel STA.
The action takes place from 4pm at the Notting Hill Arts Club in west London, and entry is totally free. Come say hi!

We're very pleased to announce that Alan MX has finished work on his forthcoming debut album, Warpsichord! The record was recently mixed over five frantic days at London's Southern Studios by one Mr Harvey Birrell, whose recent CV includes a certain album named Backlash Cop. Exciting, non?
While we've yet to set a release date for the album, we can reveal several more bits of information! Firstly, that artwork is being handled by Matthew Barnes, who some of you may know from the the beautiful tree-themed sleeve from Public Service Broadcast 9. Secondly, that the first single from the album will be for the track 'The Captain America Video', which is going to feature some exclusive b-sides and will arrive shortly before it's parent album. A video is currently in production for the track as well! A rough mix of the track can currently be heard over at Alan's myspace page.
Alan's also started a brand new blog, to talk about some of the influences and the creative thoughts and processes that went into making the record, and where hopefully he'll chart where the next year or so takes him! Go have a read.
Oh, and don't forget that STA also have their own blog, over this way! Check it out now for Andrew's jealousy-inducing rundown of SxSW 2008.

Ever the industrious types, The Young Playthings bring their new Club Playthings night to Oxford once again this week!
Joining the band this time will be Francis Pug and the Whiskey Singers, who, despite claiming to be from the UK, sound like they've just stumbled in heartbroken and bruised from a bar fight somewhere in the Deep South. Says their myspace:
"Francis Pugh and the Whisky Singers formed with the express purpose of singing about and drinking copious amounts of whisky. They have succeeded in both accounts."
Most, most excellent.
The Playthings themselves will also be gracing the stage for another of their charged, sweaty live sets. This all goes down this coming Thursday 20th March, at the Port Mahon in Oxford. Door charge stands at a totally reasonable £4!
The band are also very much hard at work on new material - the first fruits of this can be seen on the forthcoming Hot Sex! EP, which will be available digitally very soon. The title track has already been spun by Huw Stephens on his Radio 1 show - if you want to hear more Playthings on the radio, why not drop him an email and let him know?
They're also currently plotting a short trip to Spain in early April - watch out, señoritas! Further details are available at the band's myspace.

Not content with going on a headline tour that lasts for nearly the entire month of May, Fighting With Wire want to give you even more chances to see them live. To this end, they're now going to be supporting laptop emo wizard Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly on his upcoming British and Irish dates. Exciting, huh?
Mr Fly is touring in support of his second album, Searching For The Hows And Whys, which was released last Monday via Atlantic Records. Also very cool: synth-poppers and STA Alldayer veterns I Was A Cub Scout will be joining the tour for all the April dates. Who remembers their incredible set in the Sweatbox room back at Alldayer 06? Wow.
The tour calls at the following venues:
30th March - Dublin - Whelans [ TIcketmaster ]31st March - Belfast - Spring & Airbrake [ Ticketmaster ]2nd April - Glasgow - ABC [ Seetickets ] [ Ticketmaster ]3rd April - Wolverhampton - Wulfrun Hall [ Seetickets ] [ Ticketmaster ]4th April - Manchester - Academy 26th April - Cardiff - University [ Seetickets ] [ WeGotTickets ]7th April - Sheffield - Plug [ Seetickets ] [ Ticketweb ]8th April - London - Shepherd's Bush Empire [ Seetickets ] [ Ticketmaster ] [ Ticketweb ]
Last FM users, click here to add any of Fighting With Wire's upcoming shows to your personal calender!
Unfortunately, as best we can tell, the Manchester show is sold out. If you're looking for a ticket, why not try Scarlet Mist as an alternative to eBay?
I suppose it'd also be poor form of me not to mention that Fighting With Wire's debut album, Man Vs Monster, is out NOW. Right now. What are you waiting for?

We're super-excited and very proud to announce that we're going to be involved in the release of Wrecked Angles, the debut album from Exeter's finest post-dance-punk rockers, An Emergency! We're going to be co-releasing the album with Faux Discx, an awesome label based down in Brighton that happens to be run by none-other than An Emergency's very own Dan Reeves.
Wrecked Angles is the band's first full-length album, and follows on from the mini-albums If This Is The Future Count Us In (2004, Freakscene Records) and We Are The Octagonists (2005, Captains of Industry). There's going to be a standard CD release as well as a super limited LP pressing! It's going to be limited to 100 copies on clear 12" vinyl, and comes packaged in a folded A2 lithograph print, all enclosed in a plastic sleeve. Check out the below pictures:
Front Cover
Back Cover
As mentioned previously, this item is strictly limited, and is only available from the Faux Discx website. We're told it should be ready for mid/late April, but if you want one we suggest you get a move on as last we heard, there are only about 40 copies left! The standard CD release will be distributed to shops and such, and we'll let you know more details about that as soon as we've finalised them. For now, however, why not check out the album's entry over at the STA discography?

The time is finally here -Â Man Vs Monster, Fighting With Wire's super rockin' debut album, hits all good record shops tomorrow! Early reviews for the album have been rather positive indeed, take a look at some of the below quotations:
"Fighting With Wire’s timing could scarcely be better. Having spent the last few years building up a reputation as one of the country’s most compelling live acts, they’ve waited until now to unleash their debut full-length via Jetplane Landing’s Smalltown America. With the clamour for a FWW opus to sate their rabid fanbase reaching fever pitch, ‘Man Vs Monster’ is a huge-sounding, balls-to-the-wall guitar record at a time when we’ve never needed one more."Â -Â Alternative Ulster, 9/10
"The driving, battering-ram charge of 'My Amoury' is a stand-out here, and O'Doherty's impassioned yelping of, "Does this fit!?" makes the perfect accompaniment to the ear-piercing chord stabs of his rhythm work."Â - Rocksound, 8/10
"...a Pixies moment here and a Therapy moment there – for fans of Jimmy Eat World, Biffy Clyro and such, intelligent indie guitar rock with something to hang on to..."- Organ Magazine
The album will be available in all good record shops, distributed by the fine folks over at Cargo Records, catalogue number STA041 - if you can't find it, ask! If you're looking for somewhere online to purchase it, you can buy it directly from us, or why not try the fine folks over at Norman Records? As well as this, the album will be available to download via a range of digital stores!
To coincide with the release, and ahead of their forthcoming UK tours, the band will tear up Sandinos in their hometown of Derry this coming Friday, with support from none other than Alan MX! An STA double header. what more could you want??!
Stay tuned for some more exciting Fighting With Wire news, coming later this week.
