Whilst our fellow national press hacks strive for the golden chalice of authenticity amidst the country shacks of America’s South West or - somewhat foolishly - on the affluent streets of Manhattan, there resides a young trio bang under their noses who - over the breadth of their brief career - have pretty much re-written the authenticity rule book all by themselves. They may be unfashionable - and thus unwelcome fodder for the nationals - but Jetplane Landing are punk rock personified. Writing, mixing and pressing their albums, booking their own shows and generally being refreshingly self-sufficient, Jetplane Landing talk the punk rock talk like no one else.

Yet such a proud pursuit of musical satisfaction would be futile if they simply didn’t have the music to back up this reticent agenda. But they do. And they have it by the truckload. ‘Once Like A Spark’ is crowbarred full of emo-baiting angst and some ferocious hardcore guitar-outs. From the full throttle assault of opening deluge ‘The Violence’ to recent single ‘Calculate The Risk’, this Anglo/Irish trio serve up zealous vocal growls and propulsive riffs on one large glistening hook after another (so much so that we’ll even forgive them the blatant lifting of the sweet guitar line from Thin Lizzy’s ‘Sarah’ on the autumnal shade of ‘The Strength Of Our Conviction’). Pure, raw, brilliant and thoroughly authentic, Jetplane Landing are, simply, fuckin' awesome. Buy this album NOW.
