“Solid as a rock” Live Review: Jetplane Landing - Joiners Arms on 04/10/03

From BBC Southampton, by Indy Almroth-Wright on 4 October 2003

Powerful punk quartet Jetplane Landing touched down at Southampton's Joiners on day three of their Once Like A Spark 60 date UK tour. BBC Southampton's Indy Almroth-Wright went to check them out....

The four lads took to the stage with minimum fuss, picked up their instruments and with a simple 'hello we're Jetplane Landing' from Irish frontman Andrew the lads kicked things off.

And boy to they know how to rock. Heavy guitars, tight clattering tubs, rough shouty vocals and spadefulls of energy hit you at point blank range.

For the hour-long set Andrew and Cahir leapt around like lunatics throwing classic old skool rock poses using every inch of The Joiners compact stage - but unlike so many bands who put on a performance the music doesn't suffer - they were as solid as a rock.

Bursts of Fugazi, Black Flag and The Foo's are apparent within their fresh, unique songs which were lapped up by an enthusiastic crowd.

This Is Not Revolution Rock and new single Calculate The Risk with its catchy repetitive choruses went down a storm with the audience who rocked appreciatively.

They may call themselves a part-time band - but there are hundreds of full-timers out there who can only dream of being this good.
