“AU Top 10 Most Wanted 2007” Feature: Clone Quartet - Well-Oiled Machine
From Alternative Ulster, by David McLaughlin on 10 October 2007
CLONE QUARTET
Clone Quartet are an electro-rock dreadnought, stabbing synth, slash and burn guitars and apocalyptic rhythms underpinning a maniacal vocal, their bad-ass sonics guaranteed to pulverise the senses. The quartet’s block-rocking live act and the jagged, stalactite cool of single ‘Carousel’ have forged high expectations of debut album, ‘Well-Oiled Machine’.

NEED TO KNOW
-
The title of their forthcoming debut album refers to the band themselves – "We are the ‘Well-Oiled Machine’ . . . a machine generating this electronic music," explains Andy Henry.
-
The band began life as a two-piece comprising Andy Henry and his brother Stephen.
-
Along with prestigious support slots backing CSS and The Rapture, the band has also participated in a performance art project with, the Turner-Prize nominated, Tomoko Takahashi.
-
When bringing their electro-rock to live performance, Clone Quartet try and avoid the use of laptops and backing tracks, to keep as close to the spirit of a rock gig as possible.
-
Andy Henry’s first forays into music-making came when he acquired a four-track aged sixteen. He still has boxes of tapes documenting these early efforts.
