“A fiercely intelligent peice of work” Album Review: Jetplane Landing - Backlash Cop

From Q, by Paul Elliot on 7 August 2007

Anglo-Irish Rage Against The Machine, Anyone?

It really doesn't look good on paper: four white alternative rock types do a socio-political concept album based on black American history, rendered in the style of Rage Against The Machine, with song titles name-checking Dizzy Gillespie, Sam Cooke and Miles Davis.

Nevertheless, this is a fiercely intelligent peice of work, ranging from punk to jazz fusion and the occasional surprise: most notably when Andrew Ferris drops the Zack de la Rocha routine to give a brief lecture on middleweight boxing in Us And The Ringside Stars.
