With a style that combines the manipulative songwriting smarts of Daft Punk with the elegant arrangements of The Postal Service, the Belfast-based duo of Rocky O'Reilly and Shaun Robinson is set to restore the three-minute pop song to its rightful throne.
With twelve of the fourteen tracks on the pair's self-titled debut clocking in at under the three-minute mark, Oppenheimer is an album that is totally devoid of any form of musical self-indulgence. Delightfully filler-free, each song succeeds by delivering a catchy melody quickly and getting out before it becomes predictable.
"Saturday Looks Bad To Me" is destined to be the kind of tune that finds its way onto every summer mix-tape you'll ever make, thanks to its intoxicating mix of indie-rock guitar, Moog synths, and Beach Boys-meets-Kraftwerk vocals. Oppenheimer is breezy enough for a day at the beach but it's never lightweight, proving that good pop music doesn't necessarily have to be disposable.
