“DiS Live Review 7/10” Live Review: Fickle Public - Barfly Club at The Monarch on 30/01/06 - Bucko

From Drowned In Sound, by Raziq Rauf on 30 January 2006

Fickle Public (nee Purple Munkie) are your typical indie punk band. Think Jetplane Landing or Fugazi style attitude mixed with a healthy sprinkling of sharp Rough Trade style pop rock leanings and, of course, this band is Scottish and that never fails to add a bit of spice to proceedings. Their recent, clumsily titled single ‘Just Like I Got Used To Saying Courteney Cox Arquette’ was a breath of fresh air and as soon as the first notes were struck, it was quite clear that the budget recording had done the band no good at all. Infinitely more vital and seething onstage, one can only hope that their forthcoming album, released on Smalltown America, captures their vitriol more ably.
