“The Playstation hasnt won yet!” Album Review - Public Service Broadcast #7

From Clash Magazine, by Unknown on 18 January 2006

Smalltown America present twenty-five of their favourite hot new acts currently doing the rounds and at the same time invest in the next generation of bands out there. Each act here has donated their track free of charge so that STA can round up the next edition of this series and so showcase even more young talent. A noble idea; but what of the music on display here? The bands tend toward the noisier end of the spectrum and show that there is a thriving guitar fetish out there; the Playstation hasn’t won yet!

Highlights include Boom In The Diamond Industy’s white funk explosion, the hook laden squall of The Holy Ghost, they heavy riffing foot stomping of Ireland’s Corrigan and the Squeeze-esque melodies of Aberdeen’s Le Reno Amps. It all goes to show the breadth of talent and ideas contained confirm the healthy state of music outside the top forty.
