“Much the same deal as the last 6 really. Which is to say, a damn good one” Album Review - Public Service Broadcast #7

From To Hell With, by Loz Pawley on 5 December 2005

Much the same deal as the last 6 really. Which is to say, a damn good one - 20-something tracks of the choicest, your code name is: jerky underground rock, all for about, um, minus 20p a song? Listen to the whole thing and you’re left confused, disorientated and having weird dreams about Steve Albini, which may be some people’s idea of fun.

Dip into it for jerky hits of goodness though, and truly taste the rainbow… in the past 5 minutes your reviewer has marvelled at the 57-second fuzzriot of An Emergency, been charmed by the chirpy grace of Le Reno Amps, and got very excited at having to invent the phrase ‘a bit like early Idlewild being taught sociology by Help She Can’t Swim’ to describe The Adventures Of Loki.

All that, 22 more bands with silly names (Hot Young Priest?), and the chance to stick it to all sorts of people masquerading under the collective title of ‘the man’? You’d be a fool to say no, particularly if you too had just realised that track 24 was like Tom Vek, except 50 times better and by someone called Mark Hex. Shine on, you crazy/fiercely independent diamond… shine on.
