“I fear fans with unstable hearts would lose their breath and, perhaps, die” Single Review: Fickle Public - Kittens Got Claws

Until this single, Fickle Public were one of those bands I kept meaning to check out but never quite got round to, so when my delightful postman pushed this through my letter box, I was excited. Not quite like a child at Christmas, because I don't have ADHD, but like, perhaps, a teenager at Christmas - rather excited, but not wanting to seem it. Or something. Anyway, back to the point. Rumour has it that Bruce Dickinson gave this an airing on his radio show. I wasn't sure what to make of that because I think he's an idiot, but hey... any publicity is good publicity, right?

I was taken with the CD straight away. Not only is the artwork lovely (it's all about first impressions, son), but the first song, 'Kittens Got Claws', grabs you. Perhaps in the same way a hairy metaller would grab his crotch - firm, strong and slightly startling. And if this song really were a hairy metaller, it's crotch would be rather sore because the grip lasts the entire two minutes of the song and doesn't let go.

I think that's enough talk about hairy metallers for one review... Track two, 'Slavers', keeps up the pattern formed in track one, only slightly more coherent. Perhaps the metaller is sobering up? Who knows! Track three, simply titled 'Eh', keeps up the pace and makes me realise something rather dashing. Fickle Public have managed to create a distinct sound for themselves, without becoming repetitive or, God forbid, boring. Kudos, guys.

The final, and my favourite, song 'E Squared' brings the tempo down a notch or five and mellows the 'Kittens Got Claws' experience out a little. A very wise idea, otherwise I fear fans with unstable hearts would lose their breath and, perhaps, die... and nobody wants to be responsible for death. Anyway, I shall conclude. This single is a rather pleasant experience and I like it. A lot.
