“Natural and uncontrived, but also deeply ambitious” Single Review: Fickle Public - Kittens Got Claws

From London Rock Daily, by Ashley Bird on 17 October 2005

These Glaswegian crunchers weave the lo-fi charm of Pavement together with the teeth-rattling power of prime DC post-hardcore (think 'Killtaker'-era Fugazi) and early '90s Sonic Youth to come up with something that sounds natural and uncontrived, but also deeply ambitious. Cheesewire guitars wrestle to hold their frantic melodies, while drummer Lewis Gale has a barely restrained hissy fit and singer/guitarist Alan Ferguson veers from a lazy drawl to a wired howl. This is their first release for Andrew Ferris from Jetplane Landing's label, and it's excellent. There's an album coming... get the drinks in!

8/10
