“Single Of The Week” Single Review: Jetplane Landing - Summer Ends

From Playlouder, by on 1 February 2002

Quite frankly, after hearing Kylie's 'Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head' on The BRITs (and SEEING - our collective brows are still feverish...), it beats me why anyone would ever bother to release a single again - after all, that is perfection, n'est-ce pas?

But they do, and we have to be objective about all this after all, and we're actually surprised at the sheer quality of this week's releases, though that ultimate award, the one the BRITs winners were really craving for - the PlayLouder Single Of The Week - HAS to go to just one recipient, so ladies'n'gennelman, put your hands together for... Jetplane Landing! 'Summer Ends' is two-and-a-half minutes of joyous, buzzy, punky pop, an ecstatic collision between Ash, Supergrass and the Undertones... maybe even the sound of the summer. AND it's only available as a limited-to-a-500-only, individually-numbered 7"... buy two and finance your holiday with the spare when they're bigger than God.
