About Us

Smalltown America is an independent record label based in London.

‘Good music needs to be heard - that’s the bottom line’

Since 2001 we have attempted to dispel some of the myths that are associated with record manufacture, its distribution and sale. We've had many successes and some failures from which we've learnt from and we've heard a staggering amount of brilliant music in the process.

'A staff of music lovers, a sustainable business model'

Our record label aims to cultivate a productive staff of music lovers, and a self-sustainable business model - through which artists can release the best records they can possibly produce.

'A DIY collective '

We are a DIY collective in the truest sense; all our staff are volunteers - we only work here because we love the music we’re putting out. It really is that simple. We want to make the sort of records that we would buy ourselves.

We are always looking for new volunteers. Thank you in advance for your time.

'Documenting our community'

Our label was born from the notion that we have a responsibility to catalogue music that would otherwise, perhaps go unnoticed and forgotten. We put a lot of effort into the production of our product: discs, sleeves, videos, press releases, downloads etc. How this material is archived is just as important as the material itself - we believe that our physical records should stay available to our customers. Where this is impossible due to finance, we publicly archive all that we can.

'Not a war against the corporate media industry - wars don't get won'

Record labels come and go and most of them make grandiose mission statements. Let's face it, there's no point in us taking on the entire media industry or making promises we can’t keep. We’re going about our business quietly and letting our music do the talking.

Thank you for your support thus far.
