We Are Noise Reviews Our Krypton Son New Single Gargantuan

"He’s back with a new single now and it’s cut from the same, superior pop music cloth."

You know about Our Krypton Son by now.

That is Chris McConaghy from Derry who released a fine debut album last year on Smalltown America.
He’s back with a new single now and it’s cut from the same, superior pop music cloth."Gargantuan" starts life plainly enough as an uptempo piano stomper before entering a great wrongfooting stop-start section. The final neverending chorus is completely justified with overlapping vocals and a beautiful string arrangement.

Speaking of vocals, McConaghy’s velvet tones are a delight once again. This time around, they’re reminding me a bit of Murray Lightbourne of The Dears. In other words, it’s a voice that carries the weight of classic pop easily, with shades of jazz, lounge and folk inflections accommodated with conviction.
It really will improve your day. Other than that, the video also features horses.
