Do Something Pretty Reviews 'Calculate The Risk'

One of the most perfect blends of angular guitar and angsty pop I think I've heard

Warblish insecure rantings, extreme paranoia, it always makes for a good song. The new single from their upcoming album, Once Like A Spark, sees Andrew Ferris spitting escapist lyrics whilst the band sounds like a factory production line going full pelt; overtime, bass lines tumble as guitars tremble like satellite signals beaming into my skull.

As the chorus creeps up, inadequacy slips in ‘I chose to be angry, but failed to make the killer speech’, then it smacks you in the face, one of the most perfect blends of angular guitar and angsty pop I think I’ve heard since Fugazi’s The Argument. The breakdown has Pixies-esque whispered threats imitating those annoying internal dialogues, before the song blazes itself out. I really like it!

The B-Side sees The Van Pelt meet At The Drive-In. Emo-core, pierced by tortured vocals. I like this too!!!
