Albums Of The Year # 19: ASIWYFA

"...It's just an hour long rush of energy played incredibly well."

Albums of The Year # 19 This album is somewhat mental. It's post rock taken to an extreme, it's bloody fast but amazingly intricate. "Set Guitars To Kill" is the perfect example of this, with crushing chords and a heavy sound overlaid with a pretty little noodling on the guitar. It sets the tone for the album as a whole, it's just an hour long rush of energy played incredibly well. The closing trio of "Don't Waste Time Doing Things You Hate", "The Voiceless" and "Eat The City, Eat It Whole" is practically the best way to close a album ever, varying into slower territory but still with the energy that make the fast tracks so enthralling. The music is arranged really well throughout too, with instruments intertwining each other, or dropping in and out of the songs with ease. And to think there was a point when I thought all post-rock bands were all beginning to sound like Explosions In The Sky copycats.
