December 2011 Newsletter

It's been a busy month at Smalltown Towers, catch up and see what's forthcoming via December's Newsletter.

Introducing: Our Krypton Son

We're all super excited to be working with Chris McConaghy aka Our Krypton Son. His track 'Sunlight In The Ashes' was recently featured as part of  our annual compilation series 'Public Service Broadcast: 10' and we've fallen in Love with OKS' dreamy, new-folk sound. His debut single "Catalonian Love Song" was released on November 18th to critical acclaim: 'The sweep and sway of "Catalonian Love Song" is redolent of Richard Hawley, or the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner at his most contemplative. Very promising indeed.' - AU Magazine

Talking to local press this week, Chris said: “It’s early days yet, but everything has been great so far...It’d be brilliant if we were successful enough so I could pack in the unfulfilling day job at some point and just be a self employed songwriter! This time next year, Rodder’s...”

"Catalanion Love Song" is available to purchase right here. It will also be available on iTunes from January 16th. Pre-order here.

Fighting With Wire Are Back!

Fighting With Wire have announced that they will be supporting Helmet on their forthcoming European tour in Spring 2012. The 28 date tour starts in Lisbon on March 6th and ends in Reading on April 8th. The tour encompasses eleven countries.

Talking about the tour, bassist Jamie King said: "We're really happy to be able to confirm the Helmet tour. Its the 'Meantime' 20th Anniversary Tour as well which makes it extra special. We were lucky enough to play some UK dates with Helmet & LaFaro last year so to get the full European Tour is a real honour and means we get to hear 'Meantime' live in a different city every night for 5 weeks. Whats not to like?

It'll be great to be back on the road again after a quiet year and we hope to have some more news for y'all soon, so watch this space...IN THE MEANTIME!!!"

LaFaro: Full Tilt

What a month for LaFaro! Playing the Ulster Hall with their heroes Therapy?, supporting Smalltown America alumni And So I Watch You From Afar around Europe and no sooner are they back, and they're away again!

Currently breaking in new bassist Oisin O'Doherty [Yes, he is related to current stand-in bassist and Figting With Wire frontman Cahir O'Doherty - brothers actually] on dates in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. Although, this is a mere warm up in comparison to LaFaro's touring schedule in 2012. The 23 date tour starts with Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, Netherlands on January 12th and finishes in Utrecht, Netherlands on February 25th. The round trip will encompass 8 countries. See the full schedule on their artist profile.

More Than Conquerors: New Video

With their second EP 'Boots & Bones' released last month, More Than Conquerors have been keeping the pressure on. Not content to have a rest after their 6 week tour around the UK & Ireland, the guys have gone straight into promoting their next single "The Deer & The Fox". The photograph above is taken from the video which is due for release later this month.

Talking about the reaction to 'Boots & Bones', frontman Kris Platt said: "The feedback has been amazing. We didn't expect so many people to latch onto it in the way that they have. It means the world to us."

Feldberg: In The Studio

Icelandic pop-duo Rósa and Einar are back with a brand new album, just seven months after their debut was released by Smalltown America. If that wasn't impressive enough, they're only back from a tour of Japan! Upon their return we had a chat with the guys.

How is the new album coming along?
It´s coming along very nicely… We are working on 5 tracks at a time and trying to finish them completely before we start on the next 5… which can be difficult as the newest songs are always the most fun to work with.
Confirmed tracks?
Track 1 to 4 are completely written but we still have some things to finish.  At the moment we are still on working titles, such as: "The Woohoo Song", "Techno Song", "The Indy Song" and "The New Song".
What can we expect from the new songs?
It's a totally fresh Feldberg.
So what else is new in the world of Feldberg?
Nói is now an official member of the band and you will hear some of his quirkiness throughout our next album, Rósa had a haircut and Einar is experimenting with his beard again.
