AU Magazine Review 'Catalonian Love Song'
Here’s some beautiful new music from Derry. Formerly of art-punk nearly-weres Red Organ Serpent Sound, Chris McConaghy is now known as Our Krypton Son, and this is his first single since signing to his hometown label Smalltown America. His swooning balladry is slightly at odds with the raucous sounds the label is best known for through the likes of Jetplane Landing, ASIWYFA and LaFaro, but that is definitely no bad thing – the sweep and sway of 'Catalonian Love Song' is redolent of Richard Hawley, or the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner at his most contemplative. Very promising indeed.
The single gets a full release as a download on January 16 but you can buy it now from independentmusic.com below and if you’re in Derry, you can catch him live at Mason’s on December 9 and Sandino’s on December 27.
