Artrocker Magazine Review 'Carousel'

'If Arcade Fire actually got around to writing a song with hooks and pop melody, or if they gave enough of a shit to want to move your feet at the same time as your heart and head, they would have a hard job competing with Clone Quartet'

Tigertrap have already brought us more gems than is healthy for a small new independent label that isn't yet being hailed as the saviour of UK new music scene. But that's another story. Have they done the business again? Of course they have. Clone Quartet's new single (I shall be seeking out a debut if this isn't it!) is an utterly divine and uplifting art-pop classic.

If Arcade Fire actually got around to writing a song with hooks and pop melody, or if they gave enough of a shit to want to move your feet at the same time as your heart and head, they would have a hard job competing with Clone Quartet. it is jaunty and techno-fied, which I know will turn some of you dead serious art-core folks off; but for those of us who know that writing pop songs is actually more challenging than 90% of what gets passed off these days as 'experimental', this single will be an essential purchase.

As a band they're a bit grungy, I guess; and there's also an American alt-rock lilt in Andy Henry's vocal. But all more than forgivable - let's just hope some UK radio shows wake up to this corker.
