A Raving 9/10 For Neg Peg 'Looming' From Destroy All Hipsters

"Everything has been pushed to the extreme and 'Looming' is a frighteningly assured behemoth of a debut album."

Psychedelic insanity recorded on broken gear!

The bold claim that Negative Pegasus want to send the listener “deaf and/ or insane” seems to perfectly sum up the psychedelic madness of the aptly titled 'Looming'. Waves of feedback give way to eery ambient passages with occasional vocals lending the album a retro feel while never losing it’s modern edge. Think Electric Wizard at their most unhinged jamming a set of Swans covers and then throw in some krautrock and some garage and you’ll be halfway to describing their impenetrable wall of sound.

Allegedly recorded with broken equipment, the album lurches between the sonic equivalent of toothache (only much more enjoyable) and something altogether more ethereal and atmospheric. Everything has been pushed to the extreme and 'Looming' is a frighteningly assured behemoth of a debut album. What’s perhaps the most disturbing fact about this record, though, is the underlying pop feel of it. From the first second of “How It Happens” to the last feedback soaked note of “Visitation”, you are hooked in an unsettling and yet welcome way. Psych has been brought, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century. (9)
