Biography

Jetplane Landing are a four-piece post-hardcore band from Derry, Northern Ireland. The band was formed in 1999 by ex-Cuckoo members, Andrew Ferris (guitar/vocals) and Jamie Burchell (bass) along with guitarist, Cahir O’Doherty and drummer, Raife Burchell. Drawing inspiration from ‘80s hardcore and associated with the British Post-Hardcore movement they released their debut album, 'Zero for Conduct' in 2001 and followed it up with 'Once Like a Spark' in 2003. Third album, 'Backlash Cop' [2007], incorporated funk and hip hop elements,...

    Description

A monster of an album, JPL are back in action with a full-force assault of our sound systems. Pure Jetplane start to finish, riff after riff after riff!

The band took a break from playing live in 2007 and return to public view six years later with this new record 'Don't Try' and new drummer Craig McKean (ex-Fighting With Wire). A taut, visceral art-rock affair 'Don't Try' draws easiest comparison to the bands work on fan-favourite EP 'Els Quatre Gats' [2002] however offers elements from the band's entire recorded output so far.

    Jetplane Landing
    Backlash Cop

    Description

"Bold and thought provoking concept album from Jetplane Landing. Jetplane Landing come of age on their third studio album, recorded at the legendary Southern Studios with Harvey Birrell (Therapy?, Shudder To Think, Buzzcocks). The band make a stratospheric artistic leap on 'Backlash Cop' - the follow up to 2003's critically lauded 'Once Like A Spark' and 2001's 'Zero For Conduct'. Bristling with creative energy the quartet somersault and back-flip through genres on their most eclectic offering yet. From the old school hip hop of title track 'Backlash Cop' to the Minutemen-checking funk of 'Lungs Of Punk'; the classic soul groove of 'Sam Cooke' versus the spoken word provocation of 'Us And The Ringside Stars' this is a thrilling ride.

Jam-packed, with historical references both lyrically and musically the band ambitiously tackle subject matter as diverse as Dizzy Gillespie's 1964 US presidential campaign to frustration at not hearing enough Les Savy Fav on the radio. Audacious and far-reaching; brace yourself for thirty seven minutes of ferocious guitar trickery; thought provoking lyricism and crushingly funky drumming on 2007's most surprising record yet."

    Beat Generation …Ha! (Single)

    Description

The second single to be taken from Jetplane Landing's fourth studio album 'Don't Try', “Beat Generation… Ha!” is a meditation on being an outsider, written (in part) from the perspective of the oft-overlooked writer Gregory Corso.

Jetplane state - “Who said creativity should ever come from anything less than rage, than from terror, than from isolation? Not us; not Corso; not others: "If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire."

    Description

Heavier and more commercial than its predecessor 'Zero For Conduct' [2001] but no less thrilling - in short this album is the fucking shit! Containing the singles 'Calculate The Risk' and 'Brave Gravity' this is the bands most accessible work to date and brought the band a legion of die-hard fans on it's initial release.
